k.d. Lange

This painting was done of k.d. Lange at the start of her career. I didn't really follow her that much, but I remember like it was yesterday, the amazing live performance she gave on her first appearance on SNL in the 1980s.

I don't have this painting any more, it's in the private collection of Jeff Wong, friend, best man, and one of the best working caricaturists out there.

K.D. Langw, oil on canvas:

Jesse Jackson was never the leader that Obama is.

In the 1980's Jesse Jackson made valiant attempts at gaining the nomination of the Democratic party to no avail. It's strange to think back to those times, the Democratic party was coming out of defeats to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and it looked like someone as liberal and left-leaning as Jackson could gain support from the base, but could never have won the national campaign.

If anyone remembers as well, the country just wasn't ready for a black President, David Duke was running as Representative in the South as a contender and "Liberal" had been successfully made a dirty word by Republicans to mainstream America.
